It's Almost Gumbo Time! Come Pass a Ride!

Get ready for a day filled with rich aromas and mouthwatering flavors. Our 4th Annual Gumbo Competition is happening on Saturday, March 14th, from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. This event is for gumbo lovers and food enthusiasts. Come pass a ride and taste all the gumbos! Every year, the competition brings together gumbo aficionados who pour their passion into creating the perfect pot of gumbo. Gumbo is a dish that requires patience and skill. The foundation is the roux, a mixture of flour and fat cooked until it reaches a deep brown color. This base adds depth and richness to the dish. Other key ingredients include:

• The Trinity: Onions, bell peppers, and celery provide the aromatic backbone.

• Proteins: Options range from chicken and sausage to seafood like shrimp and crab.

• Spices and Herbs: Cayenne pepper, thyme, bay leaves, and garlic bring warmth and complexity.

  
  

Each competitor brings their own twist to these elements, making every gumbo unique. So come pass a ride and experience:

• Diverse Gumbo Styles: Expect to taste everything from classic Cajun and Creole gumbos to innovative twists that surprise your palate.

• Community Engagement: This is a chance to meet fellow food lovers, share stories, and learn all about gumbo.

• Voting: Your vote matters! Upon entering we'll give you a token. After you try all the gumbos, use the token to vote for your favorite gumbo and help us pick the People's Choice winner!

  
  

What to Expect on March 14th

The event runs for three hours, packed with tasting and excitement. To fully enjoy your time at the Gumbo Competition:

• Bring an Appetite: You'll be trying 10 to 15 different gumbos.

• Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to chat with the cooks. They often share cooking tips and stories behind their recipes.

• 11:30 am to 2:30 pm: Sampling and voting open to all attendees.

• 2:45 pm: Winners announced! There will be a People's Choice Winner and Runner-up, a Judges Choice Winner and runner-up, and a prize for the best decorated booth.
